Dyntra.org – The Participative and Collaborative Social Hub of Dynamic Transparency and Open Government – presents the ranking of the main cities in the USA (2 capitals and 10 biggest cities) where it looks at 57 indicators divided into seven categories of transparency: 1) Municipal Transparency, 2) Access to Information and Active Advertising, 3) Citizen Participation and Collaboration, 4) Economic and Financial Transparency, 5) Transparency in Contracting Services, 6) Public Works and Urban Planning, 7) Open Data.

The current ranking is led by Dallas (66.67%) followed by San Diego (63.16%) and San Jose (61.40%). The four cities that currently suspend transparency are Philadelphia (47.37%), Phoenix (45.61%), Washington DC (42.11%) and San Juan (21,05%).

The current average of the Main Cities in the US is 50.88%:

Looking at all entities per category, we have the following result:

1. Open Data – 83.33%
2. Access to Information and Active Advertising – 75%
3. Economic and Financial Transparency – 50%
4. Municipal Transparency – 49.45%
5. Transparency in Contracting Services – 40%
6. Citizen Participation and Collaboration – 37.04%
7. Public Works & Urban Planning 34.26%.

The Dyntra Main Cities USA ranking is based on the Dyntra World Cities ranking where Dallas occupies the 5th position together with Tallinn and behind Madrid, Buenos Aires, Rabat and London.

«We have invited all entities to actualise their transparency level before launching the ranking today, but none has done so» says Erwin de Grave, International Relations Director of Dyntra. «With the presentation of this ranking we hope that the cities will start becoming more transparent as they can use the index as a checklist to look at where they need to improve.»

Main Conclusions:

• Dallas is the most transparent of the main US Cities whereas San Juan (Puerto Rico) is the least transparent.

• 8 from the 12 entities pass the 50% transparency level and are also in the top 20 of the ranking Dyntra World Cities.

• The main US cities get good scores (above 50%) in Open Data and Access to Information but fail in the other categories.
