ANEEJ Tasks Edo Government On Niger Delta Institutions
Rev. David Ugolor, Executive Director, Africa Network for Environmental and Economic Justice, ANEEJ, has called on Edo State Government to ensure transparency and accountability of resource management of the Niger Delta Institutions, NDIs, in projects execution in the state.
Ugolor who made the call during a courtesy visit to the Edo State Commissioner for Oil, Gas and Solid Minerals, Mr. Joseph Ughioke in Benin City advocated the need to promote transparency and accountability of resource management of the Niger Delta Institutions.
He commended the leadership of the Edo State Oil and Gas producing Areas Development Commission ,EDSOGPADEC, for its cooperation over the years towards strengthening Advocacy and Civil Engagement ,SACE Project, supported by USAID through Chemonics.
During the first phase of the project, which ended in December 2016, according to Ugolor, the Citizen Report Card, CRC, captured the assessment of the Niger Delta Institutions, such as NDDC, Ministry
of Niger Delta Affairs, EDSOGPADEC, OSOPASDEC and DESOPADEC as well as citizens’ perception on the activities of the institutions.
“We were extremely happy when EDSOGPADEC informed us of the road projects that they are currently executing in the three oil producing areas of the state when we came to present the second phase of the
project to the commission January 19, 2018. “The second phase of the project which commenced January 2017, is concentrating on the use of technology to measure the transparency level of the Niger Delta Institutions (NDIs) through the Niger-Delta Transparency and Accountability index.” Ugolor said.
